Arrastre Creek – Agua Fria

With the slightly cooler weather approaching as summer starts to subside, a long awaited trip to Agua Fria National Monument was already a treat in itself, but this location in particular was very special.

Arrastre Creek has some very old, and very unique petroglyphs carved into the rocks by the Hohokam people who lived here 1000 years ago. Some of these petroglyphs are probably older than that, and could have possibly been done by other cultures that passed through here on the way to Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff etc. Studies of various pottery found in Agua Fria show traits from other cultures, but it’s not known if they were traded, influential or left behind from travel.

In any case, there are carvings here that are unique and special.
