An easy 1.5 mile hike will put you off the i17 freeway and into the Agua Fria National Monument at the Richinbar Mine. From 1905 to 1948 the Richinbar Mine was owned by 3 different companies mining the earth for gold, silver, copper and lead.
Today, remnants of the mine still exist, as well as nearby ruins and petroglyphs from the Hohokam people that inhabited the area 500 years before. It’s a great hike, but not a highly trafficked one. We only saw one other couple there the Saturday that we visited.
