Agua Fria National Monument

Today I went out to Agua Fria National Monument to scout out some old Native American ruins. I didn’t want to stop at the publicized “Pueblo Plata”, I wanted to go deeper in, about 1 hour on dirt roads to see one that was less visited by modern day people. Don’t get me wrong, people still go here, but due to the long drive over uncomfortable roads, many people don’t bother with it.

Being the Thanksgiving weekend, there were people out there which we passed along the roadway camping, riding ATV’s etc, and one family that was at the site when we got there, but they were looking for petroglyphs, not ruins. Ironically, we were there looking for ruins, not petroglyphs. As it would turn out, the petroglyphs were better than the ruins (in my opinion).

There were pottery sherds everywhere and became pretty dense the closer you were to the ruins. All were really small pieces but a few had 2 colors on them which made them a little more special to me.
